St. Frances Academy fights off Cannon School for Saturday night win

The Baltimore MD St. Frances Academy rallied to take down the Concord Cannon Cougars 53-41 in the first round of the Wonderland Bracket. The game had a slow start as the teams’ defenses fought it out with the Panthers going into the second quarter with an 8-5 lead. Both offenses started to find their stride in the second and St. Frances entered the locker room up 23-19.
Cannon coach Kelvin Drakeford lit a fire under the Cougars and they were able to take a lead in the third quarter but didn’t hold it for long as the Panthers regained the lead and were up 33-30 heading into the fourth.
The Panthers showed why they are ranked #11 in the country as they were able to pull away in the final quarter of the game, outscoring the Cougars by five in the fourth in the opening round matchup.
St. Frances Academy will face the winner of South Garner-Princess Anne in the semifinals Monday at 3pm. The Cougars will be in action the same day at 12pm of the South Garner-Princess Anne matchup..
