Princess Anne Wins Wonderland Championship in Convincing Fashion
The Virginia Beach (VA) Princess Anne Cavaliers came to Raleigh with one goal and leave having achieved it with a 93-57 win against the Sanford Grace Christian Eagles. While the game started closely matched, the Cavaliers only had a 5 point lead after the first quarter, the scoring onslaught was too much for the Eagles. Princess Anne was able to break the all-time record for the most points scored in a single girls tournament with 251 points over three games. The Cavaliers also were 9 points shy of breaking the girls single game scoring record held by the 1995 Durham Hillside Hornets in the first edition of the girls tournament.
The Cavaliers were led by rockstar sophomore and Tournament MVP Micah Ojo, who had herself a day with 36 points, 19 rebounds, and 5 assists. Although Ojo carried her team to their win, it wasn’t without help, specifically from juniors Jizelle James (19 points) and junior Tristan Rickenbacker (16 points) who were both named to the all-tournament team.
Grace Christian’s game was led by sophomore and tournament MOP Jordan Speller and Appalachian State commit Isa Roman. Speller had 17 points while Roman finished with 14.
Others named to the all-tournament team were South Garner’s Taylor Moore, Terry Sanford’s Ameya Brown, South Shore’s Kendralee Ramirez, Rolesville’s Jahriell Murchison, Cannon’s Madison Drayton, and Grace Christian’s Kyndoll English.
