Caldwell Academy Uses Strong Fourth Quarter to beat Davidson Day in First Round Game of Holiday Invitational.

The Greensboro Caldwell Academy Eagles outscored the Davidson Day School Patriots 17-6 in their Thursday afternoon 64-53 win in the first round of the Day’Ron Sharpe Bracket of the 2024 Holiday Invitational. against the Davidson Day School Patriots. The Eagles had a four point lead going to the half, but the Patriots used a 21 point third quarter to close the gap. The fourth quarter started all square at 47 but it was all Eagles in the fourth quarter who come away with the win.


Caldwell’s impressive first round victory featured 4 players scoring in double digits, along with a fifth putting up 8. The Eagles were led by junior Cole Cloer, who led the team with 16 points. Senior Jaylen Cross finished with a 15 point/10 rebound double double while also adding 3 assists.


The Patriots were without UNC signee Isaiah Denis, as they have been the last 3 games, though his absence was felt a little more in their first loss without the top 20 guard. In his absence, Davidson Day was paced by Levon Jacobs and William Stevens who both finished with 13 and Stevens added 14 rebounds. 


Caldwell Academy will play again Saturday, December 28th at 6:30pm, against the winner of Reidsville-Farmville. Davidson will return to Holliday Gymnasium on Friday, December 27th to play the loser of Reidsville-Farmville at 11am.
