After an intense first half with both teams trading baskets, it was all South Mecklenburg Sabres in the second half en route to a 52-37 win over the Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs, securing their first Holiday Invitational championship. Their defense shut down the Bulldogs offense, holding them to three points in the third quarter.
The Sabres were led by Senior Guard Kaitlyn Hensley who scored a game high 13 points as well as 5 steals. Junior Guard KB Brown also chipped in with 11 points. Despite 23 turnovers and some poor three-point shooting, the Sabres still managed to get the win.
Southeast Raleigh showed some fight with a late surge early in the fourth quarter but the disappointing third quarter ended up being too much to overcome. They were led by junior guard Amaya Rhodes who scored 11 points while freshman wing Madalyn Pass chipped in with 10 points.
Each team had a representative for the All-Tournament team. Southeast Raleigh sophomore guard Dariyah Harris joined South Meck’s KB Brown and tournament MVP Nykira Arrington.
