Reidsville Pulls Through in Day 1 Nightcap Win Against Farmville Central
The Reidsville Rams and the Farmville Central Jaguars added another chapter to the novel of their rivalry in a 85-78 Thursday night matchup of NCHSAA class 2A powerhouses. The two schools met for the fourth time since March of 2023 including the last two state championship games. As everyone has come to expect, it was a back and forth game with plenty of excitement along the way. The Rams weren’t able to seal the deal until Farmville Central guard MJ Williams fouled out in the last minute of the 4th quarter. Reidsville junior Dionte Neal made both of the free throws to extend the Rams lead to five and put the game on ice.
Reidsville returned a majority of the core of last year’s state champion team with familiar names shouldering the scoring for the Rams. Dionte Neal led the defending state champs scoring finishing with 25 points. Three other Rams finished in double figures including senior Johnniyus Sharpe with 22.
Farmville Central never goes down without a fight, especially senior MJ Williams who is playing in his fourth Holiday Invitational. Williams led all scorers with 31 points, adding 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Senior Josiha Crandell also added 20 points of his own.
Reidsville will play again Saturday, December 28th at 6:30pm against Caldwell Academy. Farmville Central will play at 11am on Friday, December 27th against Davidson Day School.
