Despite a strong push from Garner who cut the lead to a possession multiple times, Petersburg VA pulled away late to win the seventh place game 50-40 in the Day’Ron Sharpe bracket to end their losing streak. Their defense was the story as they held Garner to 5-23 from three- and single-digit quarters twice.
Petersburg was a two man show this morning with senior forward Ladarius Givan scoring 20 points and pulling down a tournament high 15 rebounds. Oklahoma State commit and senior forward Latrell Almond finished with a game high 25 points, his third straight 20-point game.
Senior guard Kingston Beale led Garner with 14 points to go along with fellow senior guard Darius Whitner’s 10-point outing. Garner will have a little over a week off before beginning conference play on January 6th. Petersburg hopes to use this momentum when they return to action on January 3rd.
