Morman’s Last Second 3-pointer Spoils Sidwell Friends Inaugural Trip to Holiday Invitational

The Washington DC Sidwell Friends Quakers came to Raleigh with aspirations at bringing some hardware back to our nation’s capital. Those aspirations were swished away by a Antoine Morman 3-pointer with less than 5 seconds left in their 52-49 loss against the Southern Durham Spartans Friday afternoon. At the half Sidwell had a 4 point lead, however by the end of the third quarter that lead had been exchanged for a 9 point deficit. The Spartans called a timeout with 16 seconds left in the fourth quarter of a tie game to set up the shot heard around the city of oaks.

Southern’s win was spearheaded by senior Jackson Keith, who finished with 26 points. Freshman Morman ended the game with 16 points and 8 rebounds of his own, none more important than the last three.

Sidwell’s attempt at redemption to force overtime was made by senior Caleb Gillus but was ruled to be after the buzzer. Gillus and Junior Jalyn Collingwood each had 15 points and 3 rebounds, tied for the team lead.

Southern will play again Saturday, December 28th at 6:30pm against John Marshall. Sidwell also returns to action on Saturday in the 9:30am game against Clayton.
