The Charlotte Mallard Creek Mavericks were rolling early Friday night in their opening game 48-32 win in the Wonderland Bracket against the High Point T.W Andrews Red Raiders.

The Mavericks’ defense was all over the Red Raiders in the first half while the offense jumped out to a 11-0 lead before the Red Raiders jumped on the board with a pair of free throws as Mallard Creek led 15-3 heading into the second quarter. The defensive pressure continued as the Mavericks were the benefactor of a series of runs to take a comfortable 19 point lead heading into the locker room. The second half was much of the same with the outcome already decided.

My’Asia Young led the way for the Mavericks with 19 points in the win.

With the win, the Mavericks advance to the semifinals of the Wonderland Bracket where they await the winner of Terry Sanford-Bullis School at 6pm Monday. As for the Red Raiders, they will await the loser of the Terry Sanford-Bullis matchup on Monday at 10:30am.
