What started out as a slow and low scoring game ended up being one of the best games of the year in North Carolina high school basketball as the Wilson Greenfield Knights knocked off the Warrenton VA Highland Hawks 57-54 in an overtime thriller.

Senior guard and Elon commit Kobe Edwards led all scorers with 28 points but none bigger than a three pointer he had in overtime as the buzzer sounded. Edwards had the same chance at the end of regulation but just couldn’t get the shot to fall as the game went to overtime. Despite battling through adversity after missing two free-throws and a costly turnover late in the overtime period, Edwards was able to persevere through and knock down one of the biggest shots of his career and get his John Wall Holiday Invitational moment. Helping Kobe Edwards was the sophomore duo of Johnny Winborne and Braxton Dubose who scored 14 and 10 points respectively.

Highland, even with the loss, has nothing to hang their heads about as they fought through being down by as many as 8 to have multiple chances to win in regulation and overtime. Their 40% shooting in the second half propelled them ahead as they had the Knights on the ropes several times. Three players finished in double figures, led by freshman Brayden Ragland who had 13 points.

A much-needed break for both teams as Highland looks to bounce back on Tuesday against the loser of Wilson-Coronado at 3:30pm. Greenfield will get some rest and get ready for a championship matchup set for Tuesday at 6:30pm against the winner of Wilson-Coronado.
