Highland School (VA) Holds Off Millbrook in First Round of Holiday Invitational
The Warrenton (VA) Highland School Hawks pulled out a hard fought 61-53 win over the Raleigh Millbrook Wildcats in both team’s opening game of the Coby White bracket in the 2024 John Wall Holiday Invitational.
Going into the game, it was hard to forget last year's matchup of the same two teams but ended with a close Millbrook victory thanks to a last second basket by Colt Langdon. Millbrook started this season's game hot with a 16-11 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter. Highland used some between-quarters adjustments and found themselves taking a one point lead into the half. Highland continued to pull away in the second half, leading in both the third and fourth quarters on their way to a semifinal berth.
Highland was led by top unsigned senior Nate Ament who finished with 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Millbrook features 6 seniors this year, including transfer Ashton King, who led all scorers with 23. King also ended the game with 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Fellow seniors Alonzo Hester (10 points) and Joshua Bowen (12 points), were other Wildcats finishing in double figures.
Highland will play again on Saturday, December 28th against the winner of Green Level-Westchester with Millbrook getting the loser of that game at 11am.
