The Warrenton VA Highland School Hawks won a tightly contested 59-53 game Friday afternoon against the Southern Durham High Spartans. In a battle of back and forth both teams entered the locker room at the half tied. The Hawks took a one point lead to the fourth quarter but an and-one foul with less than a minute to go was the nail in the coffin for the Spartans.

The Hawks were led by an impressive showing by 6’6” freshman Brayden Ragland, who opened his Holiday Invitational experience with 26 points and 7 rebounds. Highland’s coach Logan Miller praised his team’s effort to their motto of “Dominate the Paint” as they finished with 38 rebounds including 11 on the offensive glass.

The Spartans’ fight was spearheaded by standout sophomore AJ Morman Jr who had 19 points and 6 rebounds. Morman had help from junior KJ Terry and senior Aden Jeffries, who had 14 points and 10 points respectively.

Highland School will face off against Greenfield School on Saturday evening at 5pm, and Southern will play Petersburg that same morning at 11am.
