After going 6-13 from three in the first half, the Warrenton VA Highland Hawks was even better in the second half going 9-17 from deep on their way to a 77-50 victory over Florence SC Wilson Tigers.
The Hawks executed their offense at a high level with three players in double figures, including Senior Shivas Taylor who led his team with 14 points including multiple threes. Sophomore forward Jayden Banks contributed with 12 points. The Hawks defense held Wilson to 14% from deep which helped fuel Highland’s transition offense.
Highland finished the tournament 2-1 and extended their season record to 9-1 including finishing 2-1 against North Carolina teams this year. Highland’s balance was key in their success, and they’ll look to carry that when they resume conference play on January 5th.
Wilson falls to 1-2 in the tournament which brings their record to 7-5 overall. Top 25 ranked junior Josh Leonard played exceptionally during the tournament and made a case for being named Gatorade player of the year again this season. Leonard and the Tigers return to action next week in a road conference game.
