Chester Thomas Dale (VA) escapes in a tight battle with Somerset Rutgers Prep (NJ)
Fans were treated to an instant classic with a showcase series matchup between two of the nation’s best teams the Chester Rutgers Prep Argonauts (NJ) and the Somerset Thomas Dale Knights (VA). Thomas Dale was able to navigate their way to a 68-65 win in an exciting and tightly contested game that featured seven scorers in double figures.
Freshman guard Timani Harris went 9-15 from the floor finishing with 20 points to go with 3 assists. Nylah Wilson finished with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Syvannah Dawson added 17 points of her own while sophomore Alexandria Broadus tacked on another 9 points and 10 rebounds for the knights.
Rutgers Prep also had four players of their own in double figures but were unable to come away with the win. Chloe Escanillas led the way with 20 points on 7-13 shooting from the floor. Junior Leah Crosby added 15 points and 12 rebounds. GiGi Battle had her own double double finishing the game 12 points and 10 rebounds with Ava LaMonica tacking on another 11 points.
Thomas Dale finishes 1-0 in their only game of the 2023 John Wall Holiday Invitational. Rutgers Prep will have Thursday off then will take on Fayetteville Terry Sanford in their Frances Pulley Bracket opener on Friday.
