The Concord Cannon Cougars utilized a powerful second quarter lead to win 51-42 over the South Garner Titans. The Monday afternoon game opened neck-and-neck, and the game was tied up at 11 to close quarter one. The Cougars responded to the close start with a fiery second quarter, opening a gap that put them up 26-17 going into the half. South Garner fought hard in the second half, cutting the lead down to seven points going into the final quarter, and pulling within 3 with mere minutes left in the game. Ultimately the Cougars second quarter lead proved to be too much for the Titans to recover from, and Cannon closed the game with a win.
Cannon school’s win was largely thanks to the impressive performance by eighth grader London Truesdale, who had 15 points for the team.
Freshman Makensey Dillard paved the way for the Titans efforts, with 12 points.
The Cougars play again for fifth place in the Wonderland Bracket Tuesday at 12pm against Terry Sanford. The Titans will face TW Andrews for the seventh place spot the same day at 10:30am.
