The Concord Cannon Cougars claim fifth place in the Wonderland Bracket thanks to 62-58 overtime win against the Fayetteville Terry Sanford Bulldogs. The Bulldogs fought hard the entire first half of the game with a 6 point lead at the end of one and a seven point lead going into the half. They continued their pattern of control early in the third quarter, but couldn’t gain any ground entering the fourth up 48-41.

Something changed for the Bulldogs as Terry Sanford turned their luck fast as they entered the final frame and they took the lead with two minutes left on the clock. After some back and forth, the Cougars had a three point lead in the final minute but ended up having to win it in overtime thanks to an Ameya Brown last minute three.

Cannon’s senior Jaiden Thompson paved the way for their win with 17 points.

Ameya Brown, a Fayetteville State University commit, put up more than just her big three, contributing 20 points towards Terry Sanford’s efforts.

Both teams will look to keep their momentum going into their regular seasons in the new year.
