The Southern Spartans of Durham rallied from a halftime deficit to earn a hard-fought 68–63 victory over the Raleigh Broughton Capitals. Sophomore guard AJ Morman continued his big weekend with a 41-point performance, just one point shy of tying the most points in a game at this year’s tournament. Morman was 60% from deep and converted 12 of 14 free throws to seal the win.
The Capitals kept the game within reach through the first half but struggled in the second half due to what coach Scott Wood called a lack of effort. Junior guard Jordan Page led the Capitals with 21 points and 7 rebounds, continuing his impressive tournament performance. Page has been one of the event’s top rebounders, pulling down 31 rebounds through his three games. Sophomore Austin Youngs also delivered a strong showing, tallying 17 points on a perfect shooting day finishing 7-for-7 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free throw line..
Both teams conclude play in this year’s tournament as they look forward to conference play and hopefully a berth in the NCHSAA state playoffs.
