The first game of the final day of action featured The Burlington School battling it out against Cannon School for fifth place in the TJ Warren bracket. The Spartans jumped out to an early lead behind a balanced attack spearheaded by 2024 Zion Walker. 2024 Austin Swartz helped the Cougars cut into their early deficit, as a pair of wing 3-pointers inched Cannon within four points. But The Burlington School would continue to work inside through 2025 Kaden Hammond to help the Spartans take aa 18-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. Cannon would battle back in the following period, as 2025 Isaiah Henry started to get downhill to help the Cougars tied the game up at 28 heading into halftime.
An 11-0 run out of the break for The Burlington School was paved by the Spartans’ increased pressure and efficient play from Hammond in the post. But a fourth foul on Hammond would sideline him for the remainder of the quarter, opening the door for the Cougars to come back. With The Burlington School’s inside presence on the bench, Swartz and Henry went to work. With six minutes remaining in the fourth period, a Swartz-Henery connection trimmed the Cougars’ deficit to one point. Moments later, Swartz delivered his patent, stepback 3-pointer to give Cannon its first lead of the second half. Cannon would continue to fight, and eventually, squeak out a 60-59 win.
