GIRLS: North Pitt tops Salisbury to clinch Wonderland fifth-place finish


The fifth-place John Wall Holiday Invitational Wonderland game featured a possible NCHSAA 2A girls' state championship preview. In the end, North Pitt picked up a 42-32 win over Salisbury, the defending state champions. The teams were close early on, but North Pitt found separation in the second quarter. A pair of 3-pointers from Zykheia Staton and Olivia Johnson helped the Panthers jump out to a 23-12 advantage in the frame, eventually leading to a 27-17 halftime advantage. The Panthers continued their strong play, pushing the advantage to 16, while Salisbury wouldn’t get closer than eight points in the second half. For North Pitt, Zamareya Jones had 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five steals with Johnson adding 10 points.


For Salisbury, Kyla Bryant had 11 points and three rebounds.
