GIRLS: Millbrook captures seventh-place Wonderland finish with huge fourth quarter


CARY -- Raleigh Millbrook started slow, but certainly got rolling on the way to a victory. The Wildcats defeated Clayton 58-33 in the seventh-place game of the John Wall Holiday Invitational Wonderland girls' bracket at Cary Academy Clayton started the game with six straight points, but Millbrook took its initial lead late in the first quarter as a Reychel Douglas free throw put the Wildcats ahead 12-11. The teams traded leads four times and tied three times, but Millbrook finished the half with its biggest advantage at 24-19. Douglas' putback to start the third, followed by a Corrie McLauglin 3-pointer, gave the Wildcats a 10-point advantage. Clayton started to cut into the advantage, but a 3-pointer from Ariana Morris as time expired in the third kept the Wildcats ahead 37-29 going into the fourth. Millbrook exploded from there, going up by as many as 25 in the final quarter. For Millbrook, Douglas had 18 points and six rebounds and Sanai Cole added 12 points, three rebounds and two steals.


For Clayton, Darrionna Howard had 12 points and five rebounds with Kailyn McKoy adding 12 points.
