Cannon blasts past Greenfield in Warren consolation semi

Concord Cannon School jumped out to a 19-point first-quarter lead on its way to an 85-51 victory against Wilson Greenfield in the consolation bracket of the T.J. Warren bracket of the 2022 John Wall Holiday Invitational.

Cannon junior guard Austin Swartz’s skills were on full display. In the closing stretch of the first half, the Cougars’ lead guard dished out a trio of assists — that resulted in corner 3-pointers — and then delivered a pair of step-back buckets to extend Cannon’s lead to 50-24. Swartz finished the first half with 10 points and nine assists.

The Cougars (16-4) continued their dominance in the second half. Swartz notched a double-double early in the third period after recording his 10th assist of the game. Junior guard Sean Birmingham built off his strong first half — that saw him drill four 3-pointers — to help Cannon build its lead to 35 heading into the final period.

Cannon was led by Swartz’ double-double of 16 points and 10 assists; Sean Birmingham had 16 points and Isaiah Henry added 14.

Greenfield (14-5) was led by Hampton Evans’ 12 points.
